Welcome to the Diocese of Olympia Planned Giving Website LENT 2010
Lent is a time to look seriously and intentionally at our lives - who we have been, who we are, and who we are becoming, as a child of Christ. Lent is a time to step back and realize that one day God will call us to that resurrection life which lies ahead at Easter.
Getting one's life planning affairs in order is a good exercise for Lent. If you've been procrastinating, I invite you to use our Life Planning Manual and get on with updating your will if it needs it, your health care directive, planning your memorial services and answering all the questions in the manual.
Please don't hesitate to call me if I can be of help. If you've already acted on your values and remembered your church in your will with a legacy gift, you qualify as a member of the Bishop's Society. We'll send you a purple bookmark and lapel pin and invite you to events with Bishop Rickel from time to time to say thanks and encourage others to join us.Carl Knirk, Canon for Planned Giving/Stewardship/Evangelism206-325-4200, ext. 2016 or email cknirk@ecww.org
PLANNED GIFTS TO YOUR CHURCH Bequest in your will: "I give, devise and bequeath to (name of church, city, state) ( ___% of my estate, or a specific sum of money, or description of property, or "the rest residue and remainder of my estate") to be used for its general tax-exempt purposes and without restrictions as to use."
Gifts of Life Insurance: You can purchase a new policy and make the church the owner and beneficiary; the premiums can be made as contributions to the church and be deductible. Or, you can make the church beneficiary of a percentage or all of an existing policy by simply updating the beneficiary form. Contact your company for a new beneficiary form.
IRA, Retirement Plans: You can make the church a beneficiary of a percentage or all of your remaining IRA or retirement plans by changing the beneficiary form. The church does not pay tax on these while your heirs will.
Gifts That Provide An Income: Charitable Gift Annuities and Charitable Trusts offer a guaranteed income, tax advantages, and a gift to your church upon your death.
