Welcome to the Diocese of Olympia Planned Giving Website New Year's Resolutions for 2010
Perhaps one of your resolutions for 2010 is to update your will and get your other life plans in order. If you've been procrastinating, may I encourage you to look at the Life Planning Manual in our menu to the right. Over 8,000 of these have been distributed around our diocese in the last decade and people constantly thank me for giving it to them. If you do all the things in this manual, you will not be leaving a mess should you die suddenly or of natural causes, and you will be leaving a blessing for your family.
Please don't hesitate to call me if I can be of help to you or your congregation. If you've already acted on your values and remembered your church in your will with a legacy gift, you qualify as a member of the Bishop's Society. We'll send you a purple bookmark and lapel pin and invite you to events with the Bishop from time to time. PLANNED GIFTS TO YOUR CHURCH Bequest in your will: "I give, devise and bequeath to (name of church, city, state) ( ___% of my estate, or a specific sum of money, or description of property, or "the rest residue and remainder of my estate") to be used for its general tax-exempt purposes and without restrictions as to use."
Gifts of Life Insurance: You can purchase a new policy and make the church the owner and beneficiary; the premiums can be made as contributions to the church and be deductible. Or, you can make the church beneficiary of a percentage or all of an existing policy by simply updating the beneficiary form. Contact your company for a new beneficiary form.
IRA, Retirement Plans: You can make the church a beneficiary of a percentage or all of your remaining IRA or retirement plans by changing the beneficiary form. The church does not pay tax on these while your heirs will.
Gifts That Provide An Income: Charitable Gift Annuities and Charitable Trusts offer a guaranteed income, tax advantages, and a gift to your church upon our death.
Here are some other stories and ways to do legacy giving.
 | Bequests Joe and Anna have been faithful members of their church for many years. It is where they worship and pray and find community and support. While they give generously and joyfully to support the church now, they want to provide a legacy gift to fund future mission and ministry from their estate. The most common way to make a legacy gift is to add a bequest to your will. More on Bequests >>. |
